What the numbers mean

AI models read and write in tokens. A token is about three quarters of a word. A million tokens is roughly 1,500 pages of text.

Sending text is what you give the model: your question and any documents. Receiving text is what it writes back. Writing takes more computing work than reading, so it costs more.

“Reads at once” is how much the model can take in a single request. A larger number means you can give it longer documents.
